DON'T CALL IT A COMEBACK

Everyone knows that Serena Williams is one of the best tennis players to ever enter the game. Actually-- one of the best athletes in the entire world. With her recent losses after her return to the sport, including her worst loss ever, it has caused some scrutiny about her performance and G.O.A.T. status.

Now, Serena Williams had decided to take a break from tennis after a match that cemented her G.O.A.T. status in the sports world. Williams won her 23rd Grand Slam title while in the first trimester of her pregnancy with daughter Alexis Ohanian Jr. She backed away from the game for about a year to focus on her own health after complications from her pregnancy and postpartum. During that time, new tennis stars had the ability to rise and grow.

So when Williams returned to tennis, her start was quite rocky. She lost in doubles matches with her sister, Venus, and continued to lose single tournaments on her own. She then began to drop other tournaments too. Others around her began to question whether she was ready to come back to the sport, or if she was finally aging out of tennis.

However, it’s safe to say, regardless of her recent losses, Serena remains one of the best players on the court. Without the extensive amount of training she was used to and after a long break, it should be understood that she would be a little rusty and take some time to adjust. There’s no doubt that she will bounce back into the winner's circle soon enough. As for now, it opens viewers eyes to new emerging players like Sloane Stephens and CiCi Bellis.

During her break from the sport, Serena showed that she is just as impactful off the court. She gained attention for speaking out about the lack of attention towards healthcare for African American woman when she nearly lost her life after delivering her child and faces future complications. She has also decided to speak up on the tennis world and their drug testing policy, as she finds that she is discriminated against as she is one of the most tested players in tennis. More importantly, she continues to show that she is simply human and enjoying her time. Whether it's tweeting how disappointed she was when she missed her daughter’s first steps or spending time in Italy with husband Alexis Ohanian, Williams is showing us that some moments can't keep score.

As the world awaits Williams and her next match, spectators can be reminded that every great athlete has their moments. However, Serena Williams is a different story being faced with more pressures than the average contender. The fact that she continues to shine even through her downfall should be a sign that more wins are waiting for her.
